Causapscal's
principal economy is from the lumber industry and other business'
related to its use (78%). The transformation of the lumber,
represents 55% of the town's economic source.
Even though the lumber industry represents
only 28% of Causapscal's economy, it remains the largest wood
based operation. The majority of its product is sold on the
international market.
After the cutting and the transformation
of the lumber, the third level of wood processing, fabrication
with the finished lumber product, represents 15% of the total.
The town of Causapscal dœs its best to see that the local
economy is able to benefit from the off-shoots of the lumber
industry by producing as much of the finished product as possible.
The agriculture sector has changed considerably
throughout the years. There are less farms, but the ones that
remain are larger and more specialized than before. Farms
and private forests occupy a large surface area of Causapscal's
municipal territory. Farms that produce milk and beef make
up most of the farming. Quail breeding, salmon smoking, production
of essential oils and fruit farms represent almost all of
the food based agriculture.
Causapscal's industrial park consists of
45 acres and is situated next to the lumber processing plant
Scierie Causap and Hydro-Québec. The electric power
station has a capacity to generate 120 KV. The industrial
park is conveniently accessible to transportation: highway
132, the railway, and the airplane runway.
